Stop what you’re doing! Put down your babies, stop reading your books, shut off the TVs, and take the rest of the day off. The thing we’ve all waiting for each year has happened. Pantone has announced it’s 2020 colour of the year, Classic Blue!
Okay, I’m being a bit dramatic, but all the hype around the colour of the year can be overwhelming. It amazes me how things become trends and that we often follow them without question.
For over 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced the world. Each year, the team at the Pantone Color Institute searches the world looking for new colour influences to select the colour of the year. They look at everything from fashion, art, film to lifestyles, and playstyles. That means we’re the ones pointing them in the direction of the next colour trend based on our behaviour, interesting. That means we’re all to blame for the onslaught fo blue coming our way over the next year.
Based on their trend analysis, 2019 was a doozy of a year for many of us. From Greta to the wildfires in Brazil and Australia, I agree it was very emotional. On Pantone’s site, they explain their choice stating, “…Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquillity to the human spirit, offering refuge”. Colour can heal your spirit; that’s why when the trees start to go green, and colourful flowers start to pop up in the Spring people start acting little odd. You might see people wearing parkas, with shorts and open-toe shoes with socks.
Have a look at my Pantone Colour of the Year inspiration board, and let me know what you think of this year’s choice.
Blue can be as moody as black, add can add electricity to a space.
It can be modern or classly and never goes out of style.
While I try to buck trends, I’m not immune to them, and this is one I like because of what it stands for, and at the end of the day, blue is lovely.
