As a kid, there’s nothing more magical than a treehouse. As a grown-up, there’s nothing is more magical than a treehouse. Then why the heck don’t we see more grown-up treehouses? Maybe it because our grown-up knees would hurt too much to climb them?!

As a child, I could always be found barefoot, hanging from trees with sticks and leaves caught in my hair, so much so that my family took to calling me Mowgli. Even then, I dreamed of living in a treehouse. Not much has changed since then. I still climb trees, walk barefoot outside, despite being told I’ll get plantar warts if I keep doing it, and I always have sticks, dust, and the occasional piece of drywall in my hair.

I may have grown up a bit since then, but I still dream of living like a Wildling. My current version is just a bit more mature. I’d still live in a treehouse like the one’s I haphazardly tried to build as a kid, but it would be way more modern and stylish like these beauties below.

When I was young, my dream treehouse had

  • A rope swing
  • A slide
  • A zipline
  • A TV and Nintendo, and
  • Slingshots to take care of intruders like in Home Alone.

Now that I’m grown, it would have

  • Floor to ceiling windows – in certain areas
  • A bridge entrance
  • A floating fireplace
  • An outside shower
  • A railing made of sticks, like the ones in my hair, and
  • An aquarium because it would be hilarious to have fish in a tree.

I think the obvious choice is to build a treehouse outside the city, but it would be an excellent option for people in the city as well. Being high above the street level can do a lot for our lives.

  • Reduce all the racket coming into your home from cars and rowdy neighbours
  • Make you feel like your not in the city and bring a greater sense of serenity
  • Allow you to be the beautiful loner you want to be and create a greater sense of privacy
  • Let you use the land better by utilizing the space below the treehouse for gardening or additional outdoor living space
  • Add greater security cause only spider man would attempt to get into your house
  • Get more light your home by being in line or above the trees

A treehouse can let you feel part of the secret world of nature we rarely get to see. Views reserved only for birds, bees and squirrels. Now, I’ve got to head back to work to make and save the dollars I’ll need to build my dream treehouse.
